Charm City Cross - Baltimore MD

Cat 2 \ 3

Hunter made the trip down with the Shelbatron for the second week of the MAC Race Series in Baltimore. Hunter missed the first weekend, so without points, had to start mid pack in this field of 125 racers. A long up hill start chute on both days helped him get into the top 50 before the sweeping curves of the grassy park took over. Day 1 was slightly muddy thanks to rain the day before. There were only a few tricky corners on course. Speeds stayed high all lap with mostly sweeping turns on fast rolling mud. Punchy uphills with longer downhill sections gave opportunity for a bit of recovery. This suited Hunter as he was coming into Saturday with lots of travel in his legs. He rolled clear of a group of 3 with a lap to go and was able to hold onto 13th place. Good for some points to be used in next weekend.

Day 2 started nearly exactly the same for Hunter, although a 2nd uphill section shortly into the course let him pick his way up a few more places and he was sitting top 15 within a lap. The course was run almost exactly backwards from day one. This led to shorter, technical downhills and longer uphill drags. The addition of two sand pits further made this day far tougher then the first day, although Hunter had to run the sand only on lap 1. Again, a group of 3 formed, fighting it out for 7th place this time. On the last lap Hunter got in front during the most muddy section and led the way for the final half lap, thru the sand and grass sections. He hit the pavement first with both riders right there behind. Hunter waited for another to start the sprint but when no one would go immediately, Hunter took off and was able to hold full throttle for 100 meters to the line to snag 7th place.
