Cheshire Cross !!!

Cheshire Cross is in the books! The event was a success and everyone had a good time. The one bad spot was seeing an ambulance roll up to cart away Ernie Tautkus, who was sitting in the lead group of the 35+ race when he crashed in the woods. Ernie ended up refusing the ambulance ride to the hospital, instead having his girlfriend take him ( so Pro of him ). Good news is that nothing is broken... Just some bruised ribs and arm bones. Get better Ernie!

There were plenty of stories to tell from the day. We will start with the usual update on how the team did racing.
Cat 4
Dillon decided last minute to race this one along with Aaron the Scott bikes rep. Aaron brought a full compliment of Spark MTB and 29er's. Of course riding the run-up was no problem for them. Dillon finished ( in jeans ) toward the back of the Cat4 field
Cat 1,2,3
Larry, Joe K and Hunter lined up for the main event. The were 38 starters for this event. The most we have ever had for an Elite event. Hunter was feeling pretty tired from all night and early morning race preparations and almost didnt start the event.
Joe got the best start on the team and was 5th or 6th heading into the woods the first time. Hunter and Larry started behind the whole field and needed some time to get thru traffic. There were a couple of crashes on the first lap and a couple of mechanicals. A couple of strong guys got hit with flats or broken parts so after the first lap Joe and Hunter were looking good and fighting for the top 10. The front 3 or 4 lit it up early on and simply rode away, lead by veteran Alec Donahue. Hunter got stuck behind a rider who came out of the pedals on the run-up and was forced to run it twice. Joe also had to run it a couple of times. Larry rode it smoothly each time and that made a huge difference in his race. With 2 laps to go he had Hunter in his sights. Once Hunter got going he found his racing legs and was able to finish in the top 10 at 8th place. That was good enough for the Bronze Medal for 30-34 year old's. Story of the day though is Larry coming thru, following up his win in Vermont with a solid finish at 9th. Joe rolled in at 16th.
