Racing Weekend - April 3rd

Saturday in Plainville

Cat 4,5 Race

Matt Sack was in town from school for the holiday break and decided to race. He races Cat B in collegiate and is well on his way to getting Cat 3 racing status as soon as his college season is over. He scored a 3rd place in the group sprint today. Great job Matt and good to see ya!
Joe P also raced and continued his solid Plainville series with a 7th. Joe has consistently finished top 15 or even top 10.

Cat 2,3,4 Race

For this, the last scheduled cat 2,3,4 race in Plainville, Joe K, Hunter and Gregg toed the line ready to build off of the solid race the team had last week. It was acknowledged that controlling the field with just 3 riders was not going to possible. A full contingent of C-nuts, Exposition Wheelmen and a couple of riders from Zanes stacked this field up nicely.
Race Recap from Joe K,
For me the day started off with bad karma……#1 I could not find my new L.G. team jersey anywhere…..totally got me into a bad mood. #2 I flatted on my rear wheel on the way to the race, had to do a quick tube change and go like hell to get there, get my number, and all that.

The race started off pretty fast with no immediate breaks getting away. I was going to cover any early breaks as I was thoroughly warmed up from my Z4 effort to make it to the race but Hunter was closer to the front when the first break started to go. He did a great job covering wheels and keeping it together. A few laps later there was a touch of wheels and 2 guys went down, Hunter was slightly involved, he did not go down but his rear derailleur took a hit and was bent, shifting was not so good. Gregg did some nice work to bridge some gaps and block the wind for me to keep me in the front. I went for the 1st prime but was not able to come around the two C'nauts in front of me and only managed 3rd. A few breaks tried to go away but were reeled in. With about 8 laps to go a spoke broke on my rear wheel and it felt like I was pedaling up hill into the wind for 2-3 laps until I finally got spit out the back. I made it to the start line and someone let me borrow their wheel to finish the race. Although at that point my legs were toast. In the final lap Hunter and I were in pretty good position, I think Hunter was trying to lead me out because he had gear problems, but not knowing that and my legs feeling like Jell-O I tried to lead him out. Well it did not work out to well for either of us.....Hunter managed 7th and I came in 11th. All in all a good day of racing with some unfortunate problems.
