Cat 3

Joe K pulls off another great finish and proves himself one of the best overall Cat 3 racers in the state with a 6th place in this race. He was the 2nd place CT finisher, combined with his Gold in the Road Race a month ago is quite a feat! Here is a recap of the action:

Lining up for the Cat 3 race was Joe K and Miguel. The race was very poorly run in terms of time management. This race was supposed to go off at 11:30am and the field did not take the line until about 12:50pm. That's a lot of sitting around and waiting. The race started off quickly and Joe K was at the front watching over things. On the second lap as the field hit the back of the course on the hill Joe K hit the gas and initiated a break. One guy bridged up and the two worked together very well trading pulls and getting a gap of about 50seconds. They maintained the break for 9 laps until the hungry field got organized and pulled us back. Joe settled into the pack to recover. With about 8 laps to go the announcer calls out $20 prime laps for three laps in a row. This made for some very fast sketchy laps. On the third one Joe grabbed the wheel of a bethel Cycle rider and was 4th wheel rounding the corner when he gunned it, reeling in a two man break to take the prime. With 4 laps to go the field really let up, no one wanted to be at the front and speeds slowed. Nice recovery time for the big finish. An IRS Medic guy tried to solo away but did not go very far and was just dangling off the front. Once the bell rang for the final lap it was like a pack of wild horses set free, everyone gunned it. Coming up the back stretch Joe was sitting good in the top 8 or so guys, rounding the final turn he got stuck on the outside. Elbows were flying with guys fighting for position, Joe almost hit the outside curb but with the long drag to the line he was able to keep it upright and take 6th place, 2nd for CT. Miguel finished safely in the pack, and considering his age and fitness he was very happy with his performance on the day.

Cat 4

With the plan being for Dillon P to be the early attacker, the team planned to step up the game a notch and wanted to control this race of 51 starters. Peter K, Dillon, Antonio, and Joe P were there. Dillon started repeated breaks, giving the rest of the team plenty of time to be fresh for the finale. Antonio did not disappoint and sprinted to a strong 10th place. Well done!
