B Race \ Cat 3
Hunter was back for Day 2 and this time was joined by Cat 3 racer Larry Merling. Larry is still getting over a bit of a virus, but it was good to see him out at the races anyway.
Sundays race was run on the traditional Gloucester course featuring the uphill start, the full seawall road with the steep run-up and the long s curves on the far side of the grass field. Definitely better for the power riders with more long stretches and less speed sapping twisty turnies.
Hunter nailed the holeshot off the line with a long 250 meter full out sprint ( in the Scott Kit today ) and hit the grass with just one rider dangling out in front. From there he was able to watch the front all the way to the run-up and was in good position. The 2 fast guys from saturday rode off the front midway thru the first lap and soon Hunter was in a battle for 5th with 2 others. Synjyn would flat on the 3rd lap, leaving the group battling for 4th. Hunter stayed in contact despite some traffic with lapped riders with only a few hundred meters to go. As the group hit the road for the last time, Hunter was 4 bikes back but was able to time the sprint better and out kick everyone to the line to nab 4th place. Here's a picture with Hunter at far left. Thanks to the Shelbytron for taking pictures.
Larry rode improved on his 9th row start to finish 40th out of 119 riders. Next up, the Night Weasels Race this Wednesday up at Ski Ward in Massachusetts.
