Mansfield Hollow Cyclocross Race

35 + Race

Joe K traveled up the Mansfield Hollow CX race on Saturday. It was a cool, super windy, but sunny day. Course conditions were great. Joe decided to try his luck in the always fast 35+ race. There were 13 starters. Joe had a good start, front row, but had trouble clipping in and was 5th wheel into the 1st turn. Trying not to crash like last year on the first off camber embankment he decided to run it and lost 3-4 bike lengths on the leaders. Trying to make up time he went fast down the long grassy straight and into the gravel mound and almost crashed. He hung on tight but washed out and went down in the next gravel turn. He got run over by a few guys and then got up and pushed on. He passed a few guys and was sitting in 6th. He crashed again on a grassy corner on lap 2 but quickly got up and did not loose any positions. Joe settled in and rode strong on the remaining laps, passing one more guy before the finish to take 5th. Probably was looking at a podium if not for the crashes.
