Hunter was looking to get some good training in, as he hasn't done any 60+ mile rides since last year. So lets go out and race 80... Sure enough, he hit his limit with 4 laps to go, got popped from the main group, settled in with a group of 6 and rolled in for 43rd place. Not bad for a field of 70 and a good start to the road racing season.Cat 3
Matt rode strong all day in this one. He had no problemstaying in the front until a break of four riders solidified their lead off the front with 3 laps to go. He ended up sprinting in for 28th out of 85. Up next for Matt is the Killington Stage Race where he looks to ride strong.
35+ Race
Larry and Tim raced in this super fast, super aggressive shorter race of 48 miles. The race was fast the whole time, getting lined out over the climb with people trying to create and make stick a break, but that never happened. Everyone was pretty aggressive throughout the race. Tim broke a spoke on the first lap and would have to stop to pull it out of his rear mech. This of course caused him to get gapped off and unable to rejoin on the false flat open highway. Larry rode at/near front of race hoping to get into a break but that never happened. On the last lap there were 3 riders up the road including Jonny Bold the cyclocross legend. It seemed like it might stay to the finish and Larry figured his best chance at a result would be to get across to them and not have to uphill sprint against some dudes better suited for that. He bravely attacked on the highway section into the wind and got across with another rider as the road started to make the final uphill pitch before the corner going into the uphill sprint. The fast chasing field reeled both Larry's group and the Bold group before the corner and that left Larry little to sprint with. A strong finish that was more gutsier then his finishing place would show.
