Supercross Cup 2012

Cat 2,3

Hunter doubles up in the B race!
The course at Eisenhower Park was nearly all grass. The course was slick in the corners but pretty solid at 9:30 in the morning. There were plenty of power sections to sit in and hide behind wheels. Hunter avoided the first lap tricky-ness and slotted quickly into a group of 4 fighting for the lead. That group became 3 after a lap and soon after each of the 3 leaders would attack each other once or twice. With 3 to go, it was just Hunter and Brad from NYcross.com. Brad snuck past Hunter at Hopbrook on the last lap so it was gonna be a battle to the wire for the 2. With 2 and a half to go, Hunter hit it on one of the short climbs, got a gap, rode through the rest of the corners just slightly faster and was able to hold on by about 5 seconds at the end.

Day 2

Hunter came back to Long Island on Sunday after learning that the weekend was run like an omnium, with points from both days being added together to crown an overall winner for each category. Sundays course was run backwards, but with shifted lanes to get on new grass. The barriers were moved slightly, to a place that would prove decisive for the race. Hunter took the whole shot with Brad taking the lead soon after. The wind was stronger on Sunday, making 2 long straightaways much slower into the headwind. Brad lead for much of the 1st lap as Hunter sat on wheels during the headwind sections. Once it was all together on lap 2, Hunter moved to the lead before the barriers. He right-away remounted after them to ride thru a couple of slow bends that most others continued running to get thru. He got a second or 2 gap and went to work hammering out the hills and the headwinds, resting everywhere else and riding faster thru the slippery stuff. He crossed the line well ahead of Brad and took the overall weekend victory.

2nd place off in the distance, Hunter cruises solo to victory.
