40+
Miguel lined up for the super fast 40+, Cat1-4 race. Temps were low to mid 90's and with the humidity, it felt at least 10-15 degrees hotter. There were sections of pavement that, in the sun all day, were melting a bit and racers had to watch out for these in the corners. Miguel stayed out of trouble and finished a respectable 36th place out of the nearly 70 starters.
PRO1-3
The team had Joe, Hunter, Dave, and Dillon out to try to bang out a good result in the elite, 40 mile event.
The pace started fast right from the whistle with Hunter jumping on an early move. It didnt go anywhere as the first 7 laps were full gas, single file, stretching the field out over a football field. Dave's job was to sit in, stay out of trouble and be ready for the field sprint. He did just that as Joe and Hunter stayed closer to the front to try to be at the right place/ right time. A move of 7 went up the road halfway thru and once the gap was there, the games started in the field. An unknown rider slammed into Dave's rear wheel, shearing 2 spokes and giving him a flat. He stayed up though and was able to get a pit wheel. By the final 6 laps, the field was down to under half the original starters and Dave was looking at best a top 15 with the break and a chase group up the road. The final few laps were super fast however, and some from the chase group would be caught. That only drove the pace even higher as guys were looking to sprint for 8th place. In the field sprint, Dave got 7th, good for 14th overall. It was a good finish among a strong field in super tough conditions.
