The Manfield race is always a good time. This year the course was stretched out over more terrain then in years past. Despite the extra distance, the fast, dry conditions allowed for some quick lap times. One log hop, one rideable beach section, one beach that was 90% rideable, one set of weird wood planks before a double step-up hill, a single barrier and then one set of double barriers in the fast field section made for a tough, but fast course.
Cat 1,2,3
Hunter almost got DQ'ed before the race ( do not pre-ride the course if the official is in a bad mood ) but was allowed to start all the same. He was sitting 5-8 seconds behind the leader for the first 3 laps when he wiped out badly in a sandy, slightly downhill corner. He banged up his knee and hands but kept going, opting to not switch bikes. He got passed by a couple of riders shortly after, one of whom dropped out of the race after having a mechanical. So in the end Hunter rolled in at 4th place.
Masters 35+
Joe was feeling pretty confident for this one. A power course that suited him and an easy to manage field meant he was looking for victory overall. Dave Hildebrand from CT ExpoWheelmen however had a great start and was able to stay out in front of Joe for nearly the entire race. Joe certainly tried his best, riding the run-ups, beach section and log hop nearly every time thru.
Cat 4
Sean got involved in the very crowded Cat4 race and finished a strong 23rd out of 60, despite mechanical problems. Without incident he would have rolled in top 15 for sure.
