Hunter and Joe lined up for the second stop in the Cyclonuats renegade, non-USACycling "Tobacco Valley Cyclocross Series". The course in Monson was tough! Tougher then CheshireCross tough! Each lap featured a death-defying, mountain bike worthy descent along with a long, rocky run-up, followed by a series of step-ups that required full sprinting power just to get up. Most riders were shuffle stepping up the hills by the end of the race.
Hunter got the whole shot and settled into 2nd before the first run-up. Joe had a terrible, traffic filled start from the second row, hitting the single track sections in 10th or so. He used the run-up each lap to hustle past weaker riders and was soon riding himself into 4th. Hunter put time into the 3rd place rider with each lap, but was out of touch with the WheelHouse rider in first. ( a Cat 1 roadie who DNF'ed with a mechanical out of the Cat1,2 race just before ).
Joe rode smart, picking off the 3rd place rider on the last lap, making it a 2nd & 3rd finish for Team CCR. The Tobacco series continues with a couple of stops in CT later on in October. Next up for the team will be a Crit in NJ Labor Day weekend and then the Rocky Hill CX series starts up on Wednesdays.
