Hunter lined up in the 5th row for this huge field of 150 racers. The race was broken up into divisions;
Media. Guys like the reporters for Velonews and The Embrocation Journal.
Manufacturers. Guys like the outside reps ( who are often former pro's ) for Specialized, Fuji and Trek.
Distributors. Employees of various distributors.
Retailers. Guys and girls who are at Interbike in association with a shop. This is the division that Hunter was in.
Advocacy. Anyone at the show in association with a non-profit org.
Single Speed. Single speeders who come from any of the above categories.
In front of Hunter at the start was mostly strong Manufacturers. The first lap was a blitz, with Hunter slotting into a small group of 5 that was right on the heels of a large group of 15 or so led by East Coast Fuji Rep Mark McCormick. Hunter stayed close to that group for 2 laps but was unable to make contact with it and ended up finishing 4th among retailers.
