Cat 1,2,3
Hunter was the lone CCR rider in the last race. This year, some laps were added to the 123 race, making the total 43 go rounds. In usual Bethel fashion, there was a head wind everywhere on the course except for the hill.
The field was stacked with a NYC heavy crowd numbering over 50. The attacks started the first time up the hill. Each lap for the first 6 or 7 there was an attack on the hill. Hunter was there for most of the action but retreated to settle in on lap 8. Next time around, the move went off. It was initially 5 or 6 guys, but the speed in the break being powered by Peter Hurst, Rob Sweeting from Kenda, and the always fast Sean Smith, was fast enough to dislodge a couple of guys from the break several laps later. Zane's went from defense to offense when their guy came out of the break, giving Hunter some more opportunities to get off the front. Then, once the lead group lapped the field it was a contest to see who would roll off the front once again with them. The final 7 laps were fast, but that cut out some tired legs that would normally be moving up for the final lap. Hunter took 8th in the field sprint, but factoring in the lead group, and a couple of riders stuck in between in no man's land, ended up 13th on the day.
Also out racing today was Miquel. He started and finished both the Masters race and the 3,4 race, getting in 50 laps of solid training.
Next week should be good, with a few more CCR riders scheduled to come out for week 3.
