Cat 1,2,3
Tim put a rear wheel on from neutral support before the race had started. More on that later. As always Dave Hildebrand from Expo Ct Wheelmen took off from the gun. Nobody seemed to flinch and he got reeled in pretty quickly. Another small break went and Cosmo chased it down. It was pretty low key for the first few laps. A flurry of attacks tried to get away but at about 30 mph on a non technical course it would have been a long hard break away and that wasn't happening. About 15 laps in Tim had problems with his wheel. The aforementioned rear wheel from neutral support had come completely loose. Kinda scary. From Tim: "Upon realizing what was wrong I went to the pit and TJ wrenched that thing on and I was good to go again. Cosmo did a great job of pacing me back in and all was normal except for the fact I couldn't shake the thought of the loose wheel. All 3 of us were very active in the front 20 ready to pounce if anything solid looked like it might get away. With 6 to I bridged a gap solo to get with a few guys that I thought my have a chance to make it stick. Unfortunately nobody was working real hard and we got caught. At 3 to go there was a small crash in the middle of the pack. It couldn't have been to bad because all was clear next time around. So now everybody was all together again and was setting up to be an interesting finish. It was a very fast last 2 laps and with some consistent sketchy riding from Somerville team everybody was on high alert. It turned into a pack finish that was relatively safe. All in all a good day at a fast crit."
Cat 3
Cosmo raced twice today and scored 17th place in the Cat3 race. A race that had the same overall pace as the 123 field. Which was FAST!
Cat 4
Peter and Dillon did this race. Dillon lined up with a new secret speed weapon from the shop. 80mil uber-deep carbon rims that liked to stay fast once he got them up there. Again, no breakaways stuck. In fact, besides the lopsided Juniors race, there was not a single race today that ended in a break away. Sprint finishes in every event. Dillon managed to hang in there for 17th place. The Cat 4 race was only 7% slower then the 123 race!
"Sprint finishes in every event" - just what one would expect at Crit Championships.
ReplyDeleteGreat seeing you guys out there, as always.
