Plainville Spring Series #3

Cat 1\2\3

The team gets its first win of the year! Hunter sprints to first place in the last Plainville against a small but strong field. Here's how it went down:

"It was a small field but with Semi-Pro Peter Hurst from Bikreg.com there, 3 guys each from Expo and Central Wheel it was going to be a tough race. As expected, the field primarily watched Hurst and tracked his every move. There were a couple of small breaks that went a little ways up the road but with the Expo and Central Wheel guys trying to make sure to be represented while also watching Hurst, the field would bring everything back. One rider stayed off the front by himself for several laps when a crash in the peleton knocked out an Expo rider and neutralized any action for 5 or 6 more laps. Once it got going again, the break was brought back. Lynn from CW then struck out and was allowed a gap. He got it up to about 25 seconds before the field really took notice.
Give Peter Hurst lots of credit. He was shadowed every inch of the race. Instead of taking issue with it, he just rode the front strong and fast. 3,4 laps at a time. I pitched in along with the Bethel Cycles rider and a couple others. But it was mostly the Bikereg.com rider up there, tapping out just enough to slowly bring back the break, while everyone else seemed to be high alert for his attack. With 10 laps to go it was down to 15 seconds and it was evident it would come down to a bunch sprint. Zane Wenzel jumped with 2 to go which helped spread things out for the final lap. Coming up to the last corner, Hildebrand from Expo jumped hard and only one other and myself were able to jump with him before setting up for the corner. That let me cruise thru fast and in third wheel. Jordan hung on till the last corner. But it was a straight shot sprint that I took with a few meters to spare over Bethel and Expo."

Cat 3\4

New Cheshire Cycle Racer, David Maynard broke open his season on Saturday and finished 6th in the Cat3\4 race. Welcome Dave!

Masters 40+

Joe K is 39 which means he just gets a pass into the 40+ race. The familiar trio of Engeli, Hildebrand and Crowell again jumped off the front of the race and went to work on the gap. Joe did his fair share of chasing but got little help from the rest of the 20 rider field. He ended up taking 4th in the field sprint and 7th overall on the day.

Cat 4\5

Dana R and Stephen G, also new to the team raced the last race of the day and both saw their fair share of action. Dana rode well to bring back a late break and held on to finish 12th in the sprint. Stephen was a little farther back at 16th
